Mother Mill on the Roll
Construction and Restart: 2025 - May 27, 2027

August 6, 2026.
Electrical engineering students in Alternative Energy Sources - decide, along with their teacher, to take a break from the Center for Vocational Education Lolland Falster (CELF). And instead spend the afternoon of August 6th studying reality on location.
The Solar Park in Vaeggerlose is the first stop. And the second is aimed at the Mother of Modern Wind Turbines in Gedser. A German family observes the cars parked by the mill - and joins in.
The knowledge that the Coastal Directorate has granted dispensation to restart Mother Mill - is becoming increasingly widespread. A look up at the 25-meter (82-foot) high tower made of prestressed concrete (1957) - does not take much imagination to see her wearing her original hat. Even if it is basically a copy. Because the original is on display at the Energy Museum. The new hat has to be able to withstand climate change and comply with nowadays safety requirements.

July 23, 2026. Gudrun, who is a member of the association,
has arrived to produce an artistic video centered on the theme "Why Remember for Tomorrow".
This is also the title of her BlåØ Art Camp 2026 which opened July 6 in Gedser - with artists from Latvia,
Denmark, Poland and Germany.
Gudrun (from left in the photo above) is assisted by the artists Sylvia and Silke (both from Germany).
Their task is to equip an older wheelbarrow with a video camera. Why and in what context will be revealed at the Vernissage.
The other artists have chosen to stay at the camp, eager to complete their own artworks before the Vernissage on Sunday, July 26.

June 11, 2026 - No Appeal Case against Subdivision of Gedser Wind Turbine within the Coastal Protection Line
The association requested a status on a possible appeal case in relation to the Coastal Directorate's dispensation of May 6, 2026 for the subdivision of Gedser Wind Turbine within the coastal protection line.
On the same day, June 11, 2026, the following positive response was received from the Coastal Directorate: "The decision has not been appealed."
This means that the subdivision process can be initiated - in contact with Guldborgsund Municipality, land surveyor, etc.
Photo shows the dispensation area around Juul's original turbine tower from 1957 and further up to the gravel road.
Of great importance to the land surveyor, our neighboring landowner has cleared additional area and furthermore,
the sugar beet field is aligned with the turbine's north-facing security fence.

May 20, 2026.
Polish cyclists get caught in a sudden downpour as they reach Juul's mill and hastily seek refuge in his nearby Juul's Museum. Here, sheltered from the rain, they explain that they have rented a holiday home in Marielyst - as a base for cycling trips to the many attractions that Falster has to offer.
Before leaving, they ask for the guestbook. However, the association has not yet acquired one.
Then our Polish guests resolutely ask for a piece of paper and a pen. And their beautiful review (see below) of course appears in the association's newly acquired guestbook. Along with a folder for the guests' business cards.

A Co-Marketing Relationship based on Johannes Juul's Prototype (e.g. the use of struts and stays for the long durability of rotors) -
is currently being negotiated by the association's business manager Philip Friis-Mikkelsen and Rezeau Constructeur Eolien (RCE).
The aim is to promote each other's projects on social and news media, respective websites etc.

May 6, 2026. The Danish Coastal Directorate grants dispensation for the subdivision of Gedser Wind Turbine within the coastal protection line.
This means that Juul's wind turbine facilities (from 1957) in Gedser will obtain their own land register, administered by the Association: Operation of Gedser Wind Turbine.
Of course, the legalization of the independent land register will be included in the association's General Assembly on May 31, 2026.

 |
February 2, 2026. The Association and the landowner of Korsagervej 14 (including the turbine area) have urged the Danish Coastal Directorate to expedite the
applied exemption for subdivision, so that Juul's Wind Turbine Facilities in Gedser obtains an independent land register managed by the Association: Operation of Gedser Wind Turbine and a non-profit limited liability company.
The purpose is to secure the cultural heritage for posterity. Furthermore, to qualify the restart of Mother Mill for funding. Larger grants are not awarded to private landowners.

September 1, 2025. The Environment and Energy Fund grants support to Revival of Mother Mill.
Targeting additional posters for documentation of the reconstruction phases prior to turbine operation.
|

|
Previously, in 2023, the Environment and Energy Fund granted support for the construction of the Juuls Museum close to the Juul's Tower.
However, when the Danish Coastal Directorate rejected the construction of a new museum, the Fund was flexible. Instead, their grant went to
the layout of 6 weatherproof posters (about the history of Juul and his inventions) that are displayed at the entrance to the existing Juuls Museum. See photo above.
The new additional posters have the task of documenting in photos and text the reconstruction phases while they are in progress.
Photo below: The local company
PVM.dk
- demonstrated impressive responsiveness Thursday October 16 when a German CEO booked a tour
of Juul's mill facilities for Saturday, October 18. An arrangement facilitated by an association member.
The following morning, Friday, October 17, the association was able to pick up 3 weatherproof posters for an information sign at the fence of Juul's tower.
Besides serving tourists, the information sign functions as part of the restart-project evaluation. An evaluation that includes partners and contributors,
whose names and logos are presented on posters, in books and the association's website.

June 16, 2025 - The Danish Geodata Agency corrects the digital cadastral map so that it corresponds to the analogue one. This means that the turbine area is fully covered.
|
|

|
The analogue cadastral map 13g, dated 1989. At that time, the previous landowner applied for permission
to install and operate a newer Wincon 200 kW on Juul's tower in Gedser.
In 1993, Juul's original rotor and nacelle (due to gearbox failure and lack of maintenance) were dismantled and transferred to the Energy Museum.
The same year, the Wincon nacelle was installed and
operating until November 2019, where the new landowner, with legal assistance, had it removed.
March 8, 2020 . The Association: Operation of Gedser Wind Turbine was founded.
|
|
Incorrect digital cadastral map. Note that the mill area is split and cut in half. Business coordinator in Guldborgsund Municipality, Niels Kjaergaard, told the association that he had observed the same type of error in other citizens' digital cadastral maps, and encouraged us to contact the Geodata Agency. Which we did. With a successful outcome. And to the clear advantage of implementing the project "Revival of Mother Mill".

31 May, 2025. Nicole Kühr, Klaus Rockenbauer and their daughter Nathalie arrive from Austria to
donate a mini-model of the Gedser Wind Turbine, crocheted in wool yarn, to the Juuls Museum. Nicole has even created a special effect.
The wings on the mini-model can rotate.
As the photo below shows, Juul's original rotor is no longer able to operate. The main thing is that it is preserved and maintained at the Energy Museum in Jutland.
It was Nicole who had the brilliant idea to photograph the mini-model and Juul's original rotor together.
A symbolic marking that Nicole's mini-model with a view from the Juul Museum in Gedser is capable of monitoring
that the Revival of Mother Mill is carried out with a design-true copy of Juul's original rotor. That is, with all three blades operating.

27 May, 2025. Wind turbine specialist Strange Skriver conducts a final inspection of Juul's tower.
Focusing on installations from the newer Wincon nacelle (200 kW),
which the landowner, with legal assistance after settlement, had dismantled and removed on November 4, 2019.
In addition, inspection of the platform and the external and internal ladder.

Notice of General Meeting, Saturday, May 31, 2025, 2:00 p.m.
Korsagervej 14, DK-4874 Gedser
AGENDA:
1. Approval of the board of directors' report and annual accounts 2024, which have been sent to the members by email.
2. Presentation prior to the founding general meeting in 2025 of an ApS - prompted by the Danish Coastal Directorate's dispensation (November 4, 2024) for a
renewed operation of Juul's mill in Gedser.
An ApS (non-profit limited company) with several owners and shareholders, and in the long term a foundation, with support/representation of the association -
is crucial for the production and operation of Johannes Juul's Prototype mounted on Juul's original tower. This was the conclusion after a meeting and initial inspection of
Juul's tower on December 18, 2024 by
Niels Kjaergaard (business coordinator) and Christian Broen (urban planner responsible for buildings worthy of preservation) in Guldborgsund Municipality. As well as
wind turbine specialists Jens B. Gjerding and Strange Skriver (certified by the Danish Energy Agency).
3. The board still recommends that the association remain voluntary without paid membership fees. The non-profit and charitable nature is consistent with the
association's purpose to protect Juul's turbine facilities (including his patented low-voltage stove from 1936) in Gedser as international cultural heritage.
"Sometimes a voluntary association is linked to a cooperative or limited liability company or to a foundation by purchasing a share or unit.
This separates the voluntary work that takes place under the auspices of the association from paid work (e.g. major crafts and similar work)
that takes place under the auspices of the company or foundation. It may be a good idea to ask a lawyer for advice on which legal form of organization
is best in your particular case." Source: Realdania

November 4, 2024 -
DISPENSATION to renewed operation of Gedser Wind Turbine
"The Danish Coastal Authority grants legal dispensation according to § 65b, subsection of the Nature Protection Act. 1, cf. § 15, to the following:
1) installation of mill blades and renewed operation of Gedser Wind Turbine
2) construction of a toilet building
3) construction of a communication sign.
(..) The Coastal Authority places particular emphasis on the unique history associated with the mill at the specific location within the beach protection line."
REFUSAL of Juul's Museum close to the mill and
demands for removal of the present wind sculpture park
"The Coastal Authority gives a refusal according to § 65b, subsection of the Nature Protection Act. 1, cf. § 15, for application for:
1) construction of a communication building
2) legalization of sculpture park, including shelter, terrace and planting
3) land transfer between the two above-mentioned properties and new subdivision for mill and museum.
The decision therefore means that you must remove sculptures, shelter and terrasse by 31 January 2025. The area where there is a sculpture park must then be ploughed, after which the area must lie untouched or be cultivated agriculturally as before."
As a result: The current exhibition of Juul's patented stove from 1936 is maintained in the property's converted barn building.
|
The Coastal Directorate postpones the deadline for clearing the sculpture park and shelter from January 31, 2025 to February 28. On February 16, neighbor Svend Ove assists with milling the area.
